Your safety is our concern – so we would like to give every vehicle that visits one of our branches a visual safety inspection, for your peace of mind.

One of our skilled technicians will visually check over your vehicle to ensure that it is as safe as possible, and we provide a full written safety inspection form; our technician will be happy to provide advice on any issues or technical questions you may have.

Please Note: Not all services are available at all branches.

Initial Checks

Tyre condition: the penalty for illegal tyres can be as much as a £2,500 fine and 3 penalty points per tyre; it is generally reckoned that perhaps 20% of cars on the road have illegal tyres! The legal limit is 1.6mm in a continuous band across the central ¾ of the tyre. Steering and braking relies on the small footprint actually in contact with the road, and which is the size of a standard postcard – so your safety can be compromised even if your tyres are still just strictly legal.

Tyre pressures: The wrong tyre pressures can reduce the life of your tyre by as much as 25%, and increase your car's fuel consumption too - by up to 5%. So a check on your tyre pressures is an important part of the check, and of course we will adjust your pressures as necessary.

Battery: The AA reckon that the biggest single cause of callouts is a flat or faulty battery. Don’t be caught out, let us check the charge levels and the general condition including the terminals and mountings. We can then advise if your battery is likely to cause a problem soon.

Up on the ramp

Brakes: Your braking system is the most vital safety system in your vehicle, and all braking systems will suffer degraded performance over time. We examine all visible parts of the system to check the pads, discs, hoses, pipes and callipers have no obvious visible defects. We can also check other hidden parts such as shoes, drums, cylinders and even your brake fluid for effectiveness at extra cost.

Shock Absorbers: An inadequate shock absorber can increase braking distance by 11% - which is 22.5 feet at 70mph! Recently, an RAC survey found a quarter of vehicles had at least one problem shock absorbers. Is your vehicle one of that 25%? Don’t worry, we will give them a complete visual inspection, looking for leaks and of course general wear and tear.

Exhausts: Hidden beneath your vehicle, your exhaust system is continually sprayed with water and salt and other chemicals from the road surface; it gets extremely hot and then very cold on a regular basis; and internally the exhaust gases carry moisture and corrosive chemicals too. Your exhaust is under constant attack from inside and out, so we thoroughly check for rust holes and inspect all fixing clamps and brackets too.
