Tyre Safety Month - October 2026

October is Tyre Safety Month: Here's How TyreSafe Will Promote Their 2026 Campaign

TyreSafe's 2026 Tyre Safety Month campaign focuses on a simple message: you can't always control what happens on the road, but you can take steps to make sure your vehicle is prepared for it.
TyreSafe's latest research found that 38% of drivers had experienced a near miss in the previous 12 months, yet just 11% checked their tyres afterwards.

The campaign encourages motorists to move away from simply reacting to dangerous situations and instead take preventative action.
An easy way to remember what to check is ACT:
A – Air Pressure
C – Condition
T – Tread

These three simple tyre checks should be carried out regularly and before long journeys.

A – Check Your Tyre Air Pressure

Correct tyre pressure isn't just about keeping your tyres inflated. It can affect your vehicle's braking, handling, fuel efficiency and tyre life.
Tyres that are underinflated or overinflated may not perform as effectively, particularly when you need to brake or change direction suddenly.

Check your tyre pressures when the tyres are cold and use the pressure recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. You can normally find this information inside the driver's door, fuel filler flap or vehicle handbook.

Don't forget to check your spare tyre too, if your vehicle has one.

C – Check the Condition of Your Tyres

Tyres deal with potholes, kerbs, road debris and thousands of miles of everyday driving, so it's important to regularly check their overall condition.

Look closely for any cracks, cuts, bulges, embedded objects and other visible signs of damage.

You should also look for uneven tyre wear. If one area of the tyre is wearing significantly faster than another, it could indicate an issue such as incorrect tyre pressure, wheel alignment or a problem with your vehicle's suspension.

If something doesn't look right, don't ignore it. Bring your vehicle into your nearest Europit branch and one of our technicians will be happy to take a closer look.

T – Check Your Tyre Tread

Your tyre tread helps maintain contact with the road and is particularly important when driving in wet conditions.

For most passenger cars in the UK, the legal minimum tyre tread depth is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre and around its entire circumference.

One quick way to check is with a 20p coin. Place the coin into the main tread grooves. If you can see the outer band of the coin, your tread may be too low and it's time to have your tyres professionally checked.

Don't wait until your tyres reach the legal limit before paying attention to them. Regular checks can help you spot excessive or uneven wear earlier.

Wetter Roads, Darker Days and Autumn Driving

Tyre Safety Month arrives at an important time of year. October brings darker mornings and evenings, wetter roads, falling leaves and more challenging driving conditions. As we move towards winter, standing water and reduced visibility can make everyday journeys more demanding.

Good tyre condition and sufficient tread are especially important on wet roads, helping your vehicle maintain grip when braking, steering and accelerating.

It's easy to assume your tyres are fine because your car feels normal to drive. But tyre wear and damage aren't always immediately obvious from behind the wheel. A tyre can gradually lose pressure, tread can wear unevenly and damage can develop without causing an obvious change in how the vehicle feels.

A few minutes spent checking your tyres could identify a problem before it becomes more serious.
